The 2009 Arizona BJJ State Championship took place in Mesa, AZ on July 11th & 12th with 430 competitors in attendance. These competitors came from places such as: CA, NV, TX, NM, NY, MD, CO, UT, local teams from all over Arizona, and even one team coming from Mexico.
The event was promoted by GD Jiu-Jitsu Events in association with the Arizona Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (AZSBJJF). The tournament was sponsored by Kimurawear, Many Weapons, Versatile Fighter, Aggro Fight Gear, OTM Fight Shop, One Stop Nutrition, Crossfit Southwest, Ironclad Energy Drink, Max Sports Grill and Gracie Mag Association.

The highlight of the weekend was the Black Belt/Open Class Master Division. This was the first time a cash prize division was offered to a Master Category. Carlos Farias (Lion’s Den) submitted both of his opponents to win the $1000 cash prize.
